Piccolino
Scarsdale, New York
Developed in collaboration with DeCicco & Sons, this European-inspired market and prepared food destination reimagines a historic building in the heart of Scarsdale as a lively civic and culinary hub directly across from the train station. The project carefully restores and amplifies the character of the original structure while introducing new openings, refined storefront glazing, and a contemporary interior layered within the historic shell.
Architecturally, the design embraces the timeless qualities of the town through richly detailed brick masonry, warm wood tones, stone paving, dark metal accents, and carefully crafted lighting and awnings. The cupola echoes one of the defining architectural icons of Scarsdale, not as a clock tower, but as a civic landmark visible from the surrounding streets and neighborhoods, quietly guiding visitors and locals toward the heart of the village. The upgraded façade and transparent café frontage activate the street with warmth and visibility throughout the day and evening.
Outdoor dining terraces, landscaped planters, café seating, and pedestrian-scaled detailing extend the life of the market into the public realm, transforming the building edge into a vibrant streetscape experience. Rooted in the historic character of Scarsdale yet contemporary in atmosphere, the project reinforces the beauty, craftsmanship, and sociability that define the village center while adding new energy and public life to the street.
